Ross Wins Biggest QBC Prize So Far

The October Quarters Ball Club draw saw yet another record entry with 1307 balls sold which generated our biggest prize to date of £1045.60. This was won by Ross Miller from Dover, when one of his numbers (138) was on the first ball drawn out of the bag today.

With the blue quartered ball remaining elusive to the delving hand, the potential jackpot for November will be over £9700. If not already paying monthly, you can enter now via https://wwst.org.uk/join-the-quarters-ball-club?_thumbnail_id=15103

The above picture of Ross was taken at the 2022 play off final at Wembley but at least today’s success for him coincided with a better performance and three points for the Chairboys so he was definitely delighted when we called him with even more good news.

Ross who admits to being in his 60s has been following the Wanderers for over 50 years. He grew up in Gerrards Cross & his octogenarian mother still lives in Chalfont St Peter. His first match was in 1974 when a friend of the family took him to see Wycombe away at Corinthian Casuals in the Isthmian League and he was hooked!

Ross says “It helped that a few years later one of my physics teachers at Dr Challoners, Mr Harris played for Wycombe albeit only for one season before moving to Harrow Borough. Prior to passing my A Levels & going to University I fairly regularly attended Loakes Park enjoying many memorable moments including my favourite the 0-0 draw against Middlesborough in 1975.  Following Uni I took a job in the City & moved initially to Chelmsford following  getting married, which meant I struggled to get to matches, but I always checked the results on final score.  Over the course of my career I have had the pleasure of living in many places both in the UK & across Europe, but no matter where I found myself everything stopped at 5pm UK time to check the football results & see how my beloved Wycombe had got on that day.”

Now living in Kent, Ross has managed to get to all the Wembley appearances as well as the odd local game to him such as Charlton.  “Earlier this year I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Phil Catchpole for the “Till Death Do Us Part” segment in the fantastic Ringing The Blues podcast; an experience I would highly recommend to everyone, he is such an asset to the club.”

Ross, who ‘moves to Vipienne’ to watch games on a Saturday and who is a keen contributor to the Gasroom, concludes with “This season has been truly memorable so far, with us now all seeing the development of Bloomsball and the team delivering really exciting & enjoyable football, long may it last; it makes it so much easier to dream that before long we will be back in the Championship when we play like this.  I joined the Quarters Ball Club draw in its very early days as another way to support the Trust never believing for a moment I would be one of the lucky winners, but as they say you have to be in it to win it…“
